Donald Trump has made serious inroads in several Democrat strongholds – Black voters, Hispanic voters, young voters and, probably, Jewish voters – but he still lags seriously behind among college-educated women. That would be me, by the way, and it’s more than a little embarrassing that I could be lumped in with people who might vote for Kamala Harris! How can “educated” women simply ignore what Biden/Harris policies have done to the country?
I think that Ari Fleischer, former press secretary for President George W. Bush, probably nailed it when talking about the press being in the tank for Kamala. He posits that only two things matter to the mainstream media, abortion and hating Trump. That sounds about right for college-educated women as well. College campuses (or “campi,” if you’re a recent college graduate) have become nothing more than “hotbeds” for foolishness.
Just for grins, let’s take a look at the MAGA agenda, sans handwringing about womanizing and mean tweets.
The best I can figure, that agenda should earn 100% support from women in the suburbs, especially women with children that need to be protected. Virtually all the details (unlike Kamala, Trump has offered details) are designed to bring back prosperity, lower taxes, secure our safety both at the border and on the streets, real jobs, insuring our ”free and fair” elections and closing wage gaps. Trump’s policies are purely constitutional government, common-sense and traditional values.
But oh my, what about abortion? What about Stormi Daniels? What about Russia collusion? What about a NY jury/corrupt Bragg/“daddy” Merchan getting Trump on election campaign law violation and another NY jury/corrupt Leticia/creepy Engoron getting him on phantom business fraud? Isn’t all that proof that Trump is a criminal? Uh, no and no again. Most reputable legal experts have serious questions about how those actions were even brought.
I can write in depth about those decisions another time, but right now, let me just recommend researching the legal issues involved. Will that change anyone’s mind about voting for Donald Trump? Probably not. But if approached with an open mind, it might demonstrate that those of us who do support Trump aren’t ignorant yahoos, crawling out of a backwoods somewhere. We are thoughtful, well-informed people. We might not like mean tweets, but we don’t cut off our noses to spite our faces.
The only “joy” we expect is the joy that accompanies strong families, strong communities, solid economic policy, solid foreign policy, secure borders, JOBS, unity, well-educated children . . . a future!!
I guess we need to talk about the Dobbs decision and abortion since it seems to mean everything to some women and very nearly all the mainstream media. The Dobbs decision didn’t ban abortion. It merely righted one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever. Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided, based on absolutely no constitutional principle. Even Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a supporter of abortion rights, said Roe was bad law.
“For Ginsburg, the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman’s right to an abortion was too far-reaching and too sweeping, and it gave anti-abortion rights activists a very tangible target to rally against in the four decades since.” (Meredith Heagney, What Dobbs did, all these years later, was send the abortion question back where it belongs, in the states.
So far, abortion is not outright banned in any state in the Union. To date, it is banned-without-exception nowhere in the law. I do always try to tell the truth and will say that in a handful of states, it is banned only with a life/health-of-the-woman exception, and pro-life proponents are trying to pass laws that we may as well call a ban, because a legal abortion needs to occur so early in a pregnancy that most women – especially young, inexperienced mothers – wouldn’t even know they were pregnant. And an effective ban is still a ban.
Because I support the rights of states to listen to their citizens and write their own laws, I suppose I would support those “effective” bans too, when passed, but like President Trump who does not want a federal ban on abortion, I would cast my personal vote in my state against it. What if a state does pass an outright ban? I support the state’s right to do that too but still say that abortion is available. Those states are no more than a handful.
So cross into your neighboring state if you think abortion is your only option, and you live in a state that has banned abortion. I’m certain there will be countless groups in your state willing to pay for it and equally certain that there will be Planned Parenthood clinics lining the borders of those pro-life states, complete with a visiting nurse and a designated motel next door.
I guess what I’m trying to point out is that if those are your two issues, and you have even an ounce of integrity, you’ll give it more thought. Your entire reason for voting for someone who has lied to your face, repeatedly, is going up in smoke. If you want to tank the oil and gas industry, vote for Kamala. If you want to pay higher taxes, vote for Kamala. If you want to watch our borders overrun, the price of all our essentials soar and violent crime park itself right on your doorstep, vote for Kamala.
But if you just hate the Dobbs decision or Donald Trump, on general principles, think about all the other important issues of the day and whether or not ruining the country is really worth expressing your anger and sticking it to Trump! If Kamala wins, you may be free to get an abortion on demand, but that may be the only freedom that remains.
Freedom to make a living and take care of your family might be gone. Freedom to go to church and speak your mind might be gone. Freedom from violent crime and to send your child to a safe school . . . gone.
